Exams and Grading Guidelines

Grades 7 – 12 Block Schedule

Students on the four-by-four block schedule will have two nine-weeks grading periods for one- credit semester courses and one nine-weeks grading period for half-credit courses. Each course/subject will meet approximately 95 minutes each day. A detailed progress report will be sent home at 4 1⁄2 weeks and a report card will be sent at the end of the nine-week grading period. The same procedure will be used for the second nine-weeks grading period.

Course examinations will be administered at the end of nine weeks. The first nine-weeks grade is computed by counting extension activities (daily grades, homework, tests, project, etc.) 80% and the nine-weeks exam 20%. The second nine-weeks grade is computed by counting extension activities (daily grades, homework, tests, project, etc.) 80% and the nine-weeks exam 20%. A nine-weeks course average is computed by counting extension activities (daily grades, homework, tests, projects, etc.) 80% and the nine-weeks exam 20%. The 18 weeks course average is computed by adding the first and second nine-weeks averages and dividing by 2. The following describes the school year on the block schedule: The school year is divided into four grading periods—two grading periods for first semester block and two grading periods for second semester block.

  • A student can earn eight Carnegie Units in a year – four in the first-semester block and four in the second-semester block

  • A student may earn 1⁄2 credit for a nine-week course and one credit for an eighteen- week course
